For each type of energy, ask if using it creates pollution. 41. Natural Gas . A fossil fuel that is a non-renewable resource. 42. Fracking.
E N D
41. Natural Gas • A fossil fuel that is a non-renewable resource.
42. Fracking • “Fracking is short for hydraulic fracturing, a process that includes injecting a mixture of sand, water and chemicals underground in order to release the desired oil or gas.”
43. Fossil Fuel • An energy resource that formed over millions of years from the decayed remains of ancient plants and animals. Can be burned to generate electrical energy.
44. Renewable energy source • Energy source that can be replaced as it is used or cannot be used up. • Examples are wind, hydro, solar, biomass and geothermal
45. non-renewable energy source • Energy source used up much faster than can be replaced. • Examples- fossil fuels, coal, petroleum, natural gas
46. Photovoltaic cell • Solar cell that can change light energy into electricity.
47. Biomass • Any material from living things that can be used as an energy source. • Example- burning wood, burning discarded plant material, ethanol (made from corn)
48. Geothermal energy • Heat energy from inside the Earth that can be used to heat buildings and produce electricity. • Requires a location over volcanically active ground.
49. hydropower • Energy of moving water. Hydro Energy
50. Solar Energy • Energy from the sun
