  2. Understanding Suffixes • Suffixes go at the end of a root word and can change the meaning to the opposite, for example: • meaning + (Suffix) –less = meaningless

  3. Tips for working with Suffixes • The noun suffix – er is often used to show a person who does something: • Worker, player, writer. • In contrast with the suffix –ee, which shows someone who receives: • Interviewee, employee

  4. More… • The adjective suffixes –able, and –ible mean something can be done: • Flexible, edible, countable, drinkable • Other adjectives suffixes which change nouns to adjectives are –al, -ous, and ful. • Playful, fabulous, beautiful.

  5. Last but not least… • The suffix –ize makes verbs from adjectives: • Modern + ize = Modernize • The suffix –ify makes verbs from nouns: • Terror + ify = Terrify.
