  2. What is AES? • Automated Export System • Electronic filing of commodity data - the Shipper’s Export Declaration • Electronic filing of transportation data - Bookings and the Carrier Manifest

  4. Reporting to AES • What are your options to report data to AES? • Have your freight forwarder report • Develop your own software • Use the software of a service provider • File over the Internet using AESDirect • ANSI X12, UN/EDIFACT, Customs

  5. How Does AES Work ? Transmit SED information electronically: • AES reviews/edits the information • AES responds: • Shipment accepted with confirmation number • Warning messages with confirmation number • Fatal Error- correct and resend

  6. Filing Options • Option 1 - Paper SED • State Licensed shipments • Option 2 - AES full pre-departure filing • Option 3 - AES partial pre-departure filing • Option 4 - AES full post-departure filing
