  1. The Perverted Gospel

  2. The Perverted Gospel “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.” ~ Galatians 1:6-7

  3. The Perverted Gospel To pervert... • Turn around, turn about • Like a belt that starts out right, but then becomes twisted along the way What’s the danger in twisting the gospel of Christ?

  4. The Perverted Gospel “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” ~ Galatians 1:8-9

  5. The Perverted Gospel The Four Spiritual Laws starts well... • God loves you, and has a wonderful plan for your life • Man is sinful and separated from God • Jesus is God’s only provision for sin • We must individually receive Jesus as Savior and Lord So far, so good…

  6. The Perverted Gospel But along the way it twists the truth... • “We receive Jesus by asking Him into our hearts.”Re 3:20 • “We receive Jesus by praying ‘the sinner’s prayer.’” • “You can receive Christ right now through prayer.”

  7. The Perverted Gospel People are often told to pray... "Lord Jesus, I need you. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be."

  8. The Perverted Gospel As told by one well-known evangelist... “Then receive Him into your life by a simple act of faith. In prayer you can tell God that you know you are a sinner, and that you are sorry for your sins. Tell him that you want to turn from your old way of living, and you invite Jesus Christ to come into your life to be your Lord and Savior.” ~ Billy Graham

  9. The Perverted Gospel Is that the way to receive Christ? • The Bible nowhere mentions “the sinner’s prayer” (it is a recent Protestant invention) • Those told to pray for forgiveness were Christians Re 3:20-22; Ac 8:13,22; 1Jn 1:9 • To receive Christ so as to know Him, we must keep His commandments Jn 14:21,23; 1Jn 2:3-6

  10. The Pure Gospel Here’s what His apostles taught... • We must obey Jesus He 5:9; 2Th 1:7-9 • We must believe in Jesus Ac 16:30-33 • We must repent of sin Ac 3:19; 17:30 • We must confess Him Ro 10:9-10 • We must be baptized Ac 2:38; 22:16

  11. The Pure Gospel Regarding baptism, they taught... • It is how we put on Christ Ga 3:27 • It is how we die with Christ Ro 6:3-8 • It is when we are buried and raised with Christ Co 2:12-13 • It is why we are saved in baptism 1Pe 3:21

  13. Have You Obeyed A Perverted Gospel?

  14. Why Not Obey The Pure Gospel Today? And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16
