  4. Line is an element of art that is the path of a moving point through space. Artists use line to lead your eyes through a work of art. When you see a line, your eyes usually follow its movement. Art work by:Yvonne Jacquett. Town of Skowhegan, Maine V. 1988. Oil on canvas. 78 x 64”

  5. There are lines all around us.

  6. Eddward Hopper. Early Sunday Morning, and The NightHawks Cave.1930. Oil on canvas. Strong horizontal lines create a sense of calm on this empty street. As you look at this painting, you get the feeling that everyone is sleeping peacefully.

  8. 1.Vertical lines move straight up and down. They do not lean at all. A vertical line is perpendicular to the top and bottom of the page.

  16. STRUCTURE LINES Structural lines are the lines that hold a design together.

  26. Implied lines are lines that are not there, that our mind can create.

  27. In Matisse's The Desert Harmony in Red - he played with the notion of implied line by leaving out the edges of the table. Painted in 1908 by the French artist Henri Matisse.

  29. Sketch Lines Sketch lines can be drawn veryquickly, but they sometimes have a finishedappearance. Try doing a quick sketch of something small like a persons eye.
