The Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education 15th Anniversary of Language Education In 1998, the 4-year B.Ed. in Language Education was set up at the Faculty of Education, offering undergraduate programmes on English Language Education and Chinese Language Education. In 2008, the programme celebrated its 10th anniversary. The single degree B.Ed. in Language Education programme was then gradually replaced by two separate double degree programmes. They are Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (Chinese Language Education) Co-terminal Double Degree Programme and Bachelor of Arts (English Studies) and Bachelor of Education (English Language Education) Co-terminal Double Degree Programme. On 2 November 2013, the two programmes celebrated their 15th anniversary. A party was held in the University Guest House. More than 100 graduates and current students came back and had a memorable evening with the Faculty Dean and other Faculty staff members. New and old faces met to greet one another and shared their happiness about the days with the Faculty of Education.
Let’s hear what the graduates said about the ELED programme: Without attending this programme, I wouldn't have become a teacher with knowledge, skills and attitude. I wouldn't have had a job that I like. I wouldn't have met my Mr. Right who is passionate about his teaching and willing to devote his time to students. Thanks to teachers and peers! You make my life fulfilling and meaningful! Happy 15th anniversary! Fanny Ng (2005 graduate)
As I look back on the many wonderful experiences during the four-year programme, I know my time at LED has been made possible by the contribution of our beloved professors, a team of devoted administrative staff and a group of passionate teachers-to-be. This English Language Education Programme has not only equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge in language teaching but also the indispensable essence of a teacher: perseverance, passion and creativity. I was taught the importance of varieties in organizing learning activities, paying attention to learners, diversity and enjoying the process of delivering a lesson. There are difficult times, of course, but the sweet memories in Ho Tim Building have given me strengths to overcome the difficulties (say the heaps of composition yet to be marked). Thank you LED and happy anniversary. Angel Fan (2007 graduate)
Happy 15th Birthday to LED! I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to LED as it has sharpened my mind and skills to be a great teacher. Through lots of reading, assignments, presentations, micro-teaching, a research study and an unforgettable 8-week immersion in Edinburgh, my faith on teaching shines when I become a teacher. Jenny Yip (2009 graduate) With the equipment of requisite pedagogical knowledge, methodology and experience in LED, I, as well as many of my fellows, am highly recognized as competent teachers by schools, principals, colleagues and students. Our every success is dedicated to LED, which gathers the most passionate and inspiring teacher educators passing the torch of educating next generations to all the enthusiastic teachers-to-be. Thank you, LED! Happy 15th anniversary! Eddy Chan (2008 graduate)
I would like to grab this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to our highly acclaimed Faculty of Education as it celebrates the 15th LED anniversary. The 15th anniversary signifies yet another important milestone as our faculty continues to endeavor to nurture education enthusiasts and professionals. The dedication, devotion, passion and professionalism of the teaching staff truly make a profound impact in inspiring and empowering countless prospective and in-service teachers, for which I am deeply appreciated. May our faculty continue to strive in the years to come! Bonnie Leung (2011 graduate) Congratulations on the 15th LED anniversary! During the anniversary dinner, I was delighted to have a reunion with the LED family, seeing so many familiar faces and catching up with my peers. It is the LED programme that has given me a broader outlook on learning and teaching. I'm grateful to all the professors and teachers for their continuous support and assistance on my way to becoming an English teacher. They do not simply equip me with solid knowledge, but also allow me to reflect on my teaching philosophy critically. Emily Lam (2012 graduate)
