  5. Lesson 3: Warm up In what ways have the nonviolence movement for Civil Rights been effective in conveying the message of equality? In what ways has it been ineffective?

  6. SNCC in Mississippi Document Analysis Students will read 2 different documented accounts of SNCC members in Mississippi for Freedom Summer. They will complete the organizer provided. This is to be completed individually. Afterwards they will meet in a group based on the same readings to discuss what they read. Then students will be regrouped in students that read different documents to discuss what they read and the similarities and differences

  7. Eyes on the Prize “The power to vote” Review

  8. Activity: Singing for Freedom Students will analyze song lyrics sung by SNCC members during Freedom Summer. They will consider the role of the song in the movement while also identifying the emotions expressed, the message, and why it was sung.

  9. Eyes on the Prize “Selma” Review

  10. Closure How were the rights of African Americans violated during this time frame of the Civil Rights Movement?
