Racism • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, color or ethnic descent. (Discrimination based on race.) Examples: Slavery, Native Americans, Segregation, Internment of Japanese Americans
Sexism • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on gender or sex. (Discrimination based on gender.) Examples: Suffrage Amendment, Women in the Workforce, Legal Powers of Women

Homophobia • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on sexual preference. (Discrimination based on sexual preference.) Example: “Gay”, “Fag”, Feminine Men, Masculine Women, Dyke
Ageism • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on age. (Discrimination based on age.) Examples: Hiring younger workers, not allowing young workers to work
Classism • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on socio-economic background. (Discrimination based on money.) Example: Hiring, Social Groups, Social Expectations, Poverty.
Ableism • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on disability. (Discrimination based on disability.) Examples: “Retard”, Assumptions of ignorance, Work Discrimination
Xenophobia • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on country of origin. (Discrimination based on country of origin.) Examples: Somali’s, Mexican Americans, Arab Americans
Religious Intolerance • any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on religious beliefs. (Discrimination based on religious beliefs.) Examples: Hate Crimes after 911, Limitations against certain religions.
Cross Category Oppression • A web of issues rather than one singular rope. • The majority of oppression occurs as a combination of types rather than one or the other. (Racism/Classism, Xenophobia/Religious Intolerance/Racism)
