Slide 1 – Nick The Bombing of Hiroshima. This bomb shows ‘Little Boy’ that was dropped on Hiroshima. Now, a news report from Eye Witness Action News from the 1940’s. Slide 2 – Nick Hello, I am Yumi Kobyashi. Before the war, I was a 23 year old Buddhist news reporter living in Iwakuni, Japan.
Slide 3 –Nick On August 6th, 1945; I was walking on the beach of Iwakuni, while thinking of a news article to publish in tomorrow’s business section of the news paper. That’s when I saw that there was a large mushroom cloud in the distance. Slide 4 – Nick The bombing changed my news-reporting life dramatically. I ran to my news office and told every one about the bombing. They had heard, so I ran to my desk and began to write up an article about the bombing. The next few days, my article pulled in so many news papers that I got a huge bonus! I was also offered a promotion, but I liked writing articles in the news section, so I declined.
Slide 5—Nick My brother, Taketo Kobyashi, was working in Hiroshima as a Kernel in the war. He had a very important role because the army base he was working at was the only protection of all southern Japan. A few weeks after the bombing, I received news that Taketo had died. I was very distraught after this for a long time. Slide 6— Patrick The plane that dropped “Little Boy” was called B-29 Enola Gay. Enola Gay was piloted by Paul Tibbets. He was born February 23, 1915 and was born a pilot. Enola Gay got its name from Paul’s mom. Paul said that he was worried that the shockwave would disrupt B-29 and cause it to crash. B-29 flew at 31,000 feet (6 miles high). The other passengers on the plane were Tom Ferebee (bombardier), Sgt. George Caron (tail gunner), Dutch Van Kirk (navigator), and Sgt. Wyatt Duzenberry (flight engineer) who were on his team on B-17 in Europe.
