Japanese-American Internment • Executive Order 9066: Ordered all Japanese-Americans away from military facilities • Over 100,000 Japanese Americans were forced from their homes and businesses and placed in internment camps • 1944: Korematsu vs. US Government • Challenged the order on the grounds that it violated civil rights • Supreme Court ruled it constitutional because of “military urgency” • 1988: US government formally apologized • Each survivor was given $20,000 from the US Government

It is due 15 minutes before the end of class
