About Polio • The virus polio is a microorganism. • Polio is a acute viral disease. • The disease affects the nerves that usually attacks children and young adults.
The Symptoms • The virus “polio” can cause paralysis. • Polio also can lead to breathing problems. • The symptoms lead to joint and muscle weakness. • Also general fatigue and exhaustion. • In extreme cases it can cause death!
Diagnosing • Doctors diagnosis the disease polio by the symptoms and swabbing of the back of the throat. • By the symptoms doctors have an easy time telling what the disease is.
Prevention • People can prevent polio by getting a vaccine, usually by shot. • The organism is found in India, Pakistan, and Nigeria. • Polio used to be found in the United States. • The illness can be spread by contact with the infected mucus or phlegm, feces, or by contact with food.
Possible treatments • There is no cure, there is a vaccine that prevents polio. • There is also medication to help with the symptoms of the disease. • There are treatments available to decrease some of the less severe symptoms of the disease.
