Name of the Tribes • Bannock tribe • Chemehuevi tribe • Mono tribe • Pauite tribe • Panamint tribe • Shoshone tribe • Washoe tribe • Ute tribe
Clothing • These Native Americans were not wasteful like us today, they use whatever source they can find to make clothing. The hides like bones, teeth, fur and hooves are used to decorate their clothing. Buffalo, Elk, and Deer are very helpful when they are transforming their culture in to their art of clothing. Intricate patterns used in everyday wildlife express these people.
Food Berries, fish, small animals (bunnies), and acorns are the objects that the people adapted too. The tribes lived as hunters and gatherers, who lived in small FAMILY groups. Family is very important to survival. Women collect berries and do house work while men hunt and do the “big boy” stuff around the tribe. They had no clue what were and were poisonous.
Housing All tribes followed the food, meaning they had to have quick homes to set up and easy to pull down and transport. For example, they wouldn’t have homes that are concreted into the ground, they would have homes like teepees, made of stick and animal hides. Like those to the right, they are easy to transport.
Religious Beliefs • Bannock believe in after life. They would wrap their dead corpse up in a blanket and put them in crevices betweens rocks. They thought that there, they would be safe and the gods would lift them to life once again. They believed that wolves were creator god, they were respected greatly. Other animals were thought to walk and talk like humans.
Adaptions • Native Americans had to adapt in order to survive. With out them adapting, they wouldn’t make it far in life, they wouldn’t have food, no family or anything. These people were very smart.
The California, Great Basin was the best place to have your tribe. :)
