Landforms and Bodies of Water • England is bordered by Wales and Scotland. It is divided down the middle and north by the Pennies. The Pennies a mountain range that runs for about 250 miles from Birmingham to the Cheviot Hills, to the Scottish border. England’s highest point is Scafell Pike, which is 3210 feet high. In the south and central England there are many hills, with a few lowlands and plains. In the east-central part of the country, there are the Fenlands. The Fenlands is a flat, low-lying marshland. This is where the lowest part of the country is found at -4 meters below sea level. • The bodies of water that border England are the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel, the North Sea, and the Celtic Sea. Some of the largest rivers in England are the Ouse, Thames, Trent, Tweed, and Severn. The Pennies The Thames River Scafell Pike

Eden Project • The Eden Project is a great place to learn about everything from gardening to school workshops and resources. They love to help other people learn. They provide school trips, adult and professional learning, teacher training and school development, University and collage trips, and much more. Other than those activities they also show visitors about plants and gardens, music and art, and marathons. They also have activities for kids with down syndrome called Muddy Shorts. During Muddy Shorts the kids get to do things that other kids get to do, like play outside, swim in the lake, swing on swings and climb trees.
Tower of London • It has stood in its place for about 4,000 years on the Thames river. • It is actually built of many towers and structures. • The white tower is the first of all the towers it is built of. • Its’ full name is His Majesties Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London. • It is said to be haunted.
London Eye • The London Eye is a big Ferris Wheel. • It took seven years to build. • If you’re at the top you can see about 25 miles away. • It can carry 800 people all at once. • One rotation take about 30 minutes. • The circumference of the wheel is 1,392 feet.
Stonehenge • It was built around 3100- 1100 BC. • It is the most well known out of 900 stone rings. • It has been estimated that the construction of Stonehenge took more than thirty million hours. • There are two types of stones used: Bluestones and Sarsen stones.
Big Ben • It was supposed to be named Victoria after Queen Victoria. • It weights about 13 and a half tons • It is 7.8 feet tall. • If you are a citizen of the UK and pay taxes you own Big Ben. • It stand above the Palace of Westminster.

Government • It has a Parliamentary Monarchy. • A monarchy is the head of state in the country. • The monarch is Queen Elizabeth II. • The chief executive is the prime minister. • The prime minister of England is David Cameron. • The House of Commons has all the real political power in England. • The members of the House of Lords are not elected but they are chosen by the Queen.
Holidays • One holiday in England is Twelfth Night, which is held on January 6th. It is when all people must take down all of their Christmas decorations so it wont bring bad luck to their house. If they do not, they will have to keep them up all year round. There is a tradition that on that night you would eat a fruitcake with a bean inside. Whoever got the bean was the person everybody else would have to listen to for the rest of the day.

Fun Facts • The 2012 summer Olympics were held there in London. • The first public zoo opened in London. • Big Ben is not a clock, it is a bell. • The Thames River has over 200 bridges and 20 tunnels. • Chickens outnumber humans in England. • Buckingham Palace has its own Police Station!
