KDE Health Services Team Changes • Coordinated School Health has joined the Student Data and Tracking Branch • Closer working relationship with Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS)

HB 147 (Seizure Bill) • Amends KRS 158.832, KRS 158.838 • Each school must have at least one employee on duty during the school day with training on • Glucagon • Insulin • Seizure rescue medication • Medication prescribed to treat seizure disorder symptoms (that is FDA approved for that reason).
Epilepsy Training Program • No specified training program is to be used • Shall be fully consistent with best practice guidelines from medical professionals with expertise in seizure treatment.
Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana • New online or in person training program for school personnel • Meets the requirement for this bill • Free of charge
Training Requirements At least 1 hour of self-study review of seizure disorder materials shall be required for all: • Principals • Guidance Counselors • Teachers • Above staff hired after July 1, 2019. • Any current staff who have not had this training • In addition to the four days required PD days • One-time requirement - NOT an annual requirement.
Seizure Action Plans • Parent involvement in development of plan • Copy of the plan shall be kept in the office of the school nurse or administrator • Any school personnel or volunteers responsible for the student shall be • Familiar with seizure action plan • Given notice of the seizure action plan • Who to contact in case of emergency
New Medication Administration Training Materials Available • Use beginning with the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. • The updated program now includes • Narcan • Klonopin

KY TRAIN • Due to accessibility issues, the new training program will NOTbe available on KY TRAIN • Districts should NOT be using the training program that is currently on KYTRAIN • Districts may use the new program to develop their own online training through their district if desired.
2018-2019 School Health Data • Extracted in June • Currently under testing for accuracy • Anticipated release at annual DHC meeting

Taskforce Goals • Update and simply the diabetes and insulin training programs for school staff • Development of standardized forms and training materials to be used by all taskforce groups • Provide nursing continuing education units • Make training program easily accessible at little to no cost to districts
