Experiment Generate the vapor-liquid equilibrium data for the given binary system of Acetone- benzene • 1.) Check the thermodynamic consistency of the data • 2.) Present the thermodynamic characteristics and calculate • constants of van Laar equation for the given system
The concentration of the mixture is determined by measuring Refractive Index using Analog Refractometer
RTD for temp measurement Vapor sample collector Liquid sample collector Experimental Setup • Get calibration curve for RI Vs Concentration • Initially mixture - 400ml Acetone + 100ml Benzene. Measure its RI. • Run expt till the equilibrium reaches • Take liquid and vapor samples for RI calculation • Take some amount of mixture out and add same amount of Benzene to the mixture • Repeat this
Calculations • Modified Rault’s law • Calculation of Van Laar equations • Plot ln γA, ln γB (on the same graph) and ln(γA / γB) vs XA (as another graph) and check for thermodynamic consistency. • Calculate back the van Laar coefficients using
Problems faced so far • The problem with RTD reading / calibration • Low efficiency of dimmerstat • The analog refractometerin absence of good source of light
