The DLDD-NEAN network aims to identify and prioritize areas for demonstration, research, and projects to combat desertification, land degradation, and sand and dust storms in North-East Asia.

Activities of DLDD-NEAN Joint Demonstration Project : JaminUud GDP project (2016 DLDD-NEAN Steering Committee Meeting) Joint Demonstration Project • Implemented under the Greening Drylands Partnership (GDP) • Based on the plan discussed at the 2016 DLDD NEAN Steering Committee meeting • Total budget: US$ 650,000 (Korea: $500,000 / China: $100,000 / Mongolia: $50,000 as In-kind contribution worth) • Project content: plantation, tree nursery, transfer of technology, etc. • Progress • - FAO will be the implementing agency • - The Mongolian Government will be in charge of leadership and technical guidance • - UNCCD ARCU will coordinate between the implementing agency and GDP Steering Committee in the areas of reporting • Future Plans • - in 2019, the MOU between the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia and FAO • is expected to be signed soon. • (2019~2021 project to be implemented and established as a successful model)
Future Direction of DLDD-NEAN Expansion of MEMBERSHIP Nationwide Partcipation • Membership Expansion • DLDD NEAN invites countries from Northeast Asia as well as other Asian sub-regions to join the network • - (Membership) Japan, Russia, North Korea (based on the agreement by existing members) • - (Observership) Countries and Organizations from around NEAN, other sub-regions of Asia and the Pacific, etc. • DLDD NEAN will foster cooperation with other sub-regional cooperative organization. • DLDD NEAN states will collaborate to identify new project opportunities to boost subregional cooperation in combatting DLDD to achieve LDN in Northeast Asia
