  2. Counter Claim • The city-state ancient Athens would have been a better place to live in during ancient times because their people get along and they have a larger population.

  3. Refutation • Although ancient Athens’ people got along and had a larger population, ancient Sparta has a stronger and better trained army.

  4. REASON #1 • Girls and boys both received education in ancient Sparta.

  7. REASON #2 Spartan women were treated fair in ancient Sparta.

  12. Accommodations • Sparta would have accommodated you better than Athens did because they offer education to girls and boys so that the children can grow up and be successful, while in Athens, they only provide education for boys.

  13. ~Cultural Activities~ • Athletics were a major activity in Spartan’s culture for the children. Spartan women enjoyed wrestling, chariot races, and running. Most men in Sparta were off fighting in war.

  14. Advantages/Disadvantages • ADVANTAGE--Spartan girls and women receive education~ • DISADVANTAGE--Helots and outsiders were treated like slaves~

  15. Conclusion • In conclusion, Sparta would have been a better place to live in ancient times. They had a better trained army than ancient Athens. They also had stronger soldiers and education for both girls and boys.
