Bellringer 22 August 2013 • Look around the room and tell me what you notice about how our day is organized. • Consider this a treasure hunt. • Look for items such as our daily agenda, daily standards, home- work to copy into your agendas. • We will begin everyday with a bellringer activity that you should start as soon as you take your seat!
Organization of Binder We have five separate sections for our binder: • Notes – general notes regarding policies, study skills, generic activities not related to a specific area of ELA study, etc. • Reading – notes and responses directly related to texts we study, packets relating to reading process, etc. • Writing – journal responses, notes and responses directly related to writing instruction, workshop, packets relating to writing process, etc. • Vocabulary -- notes, vocabulary lists, related activities, packets related to vocabulary study, etc. • Grammar – notes, grammar instruction, packets related to grammar study, etc.
Classroom Procedures Our classroom is based on the premise that we will show mutual respect toward one another. Therefore, you may do the following without raising your hand and asking permission as long as you do so only when needed and as a PROUD Patriot: • Sharpen pencil • Get a tissue • Anything else I have forgotten?
What we don’t do in this class…ever! • Use Sharpies! • Use hand sanitizer without asking permission. • Raise hand to ask to use bathroom. Instead, please fill out your agenda and raise your hand with it in hand. That signals me to call you up for a signature. • Chew gum. This will result in an immediate lunch detention after your first warning.
Discipline Reinforcement of PROUD Patriot Behaviors Step 1: Verbal Warning Step 2: Student Note/”Quick Talk” Step 3: Formal Reflection Process Begins Remember that each day is a new day: come ready to take part in making the magic.
