  3. We are… Building for the Future - Over $42 million invested in expanding and improving school campuses since 1995 • State-of-the-art media centers and music buildings at LaFayette and Valley High Schools LaFayette High School Media Center

  4. Building for the Future: • Spacious new gymnasiums at LaFayette High School and W.F. Burns Middle School; new Valley High football stadium built in 2000 in Valley Sportsplex • Financially stable school system: Over $4 million in reserves (state requires 1 month of reserves: $1.9 million)

Excelling in Academics • Pre-Kindergarten classes • Parents are more than pleased with our Pre-K program; On a recent parent survey the satisfaction rate ranged from 4.75 to 5 on a 5-point scale • Our former Pre-K students are performing at a higher level on state testing than those students who did not attend Chambers County Pre-K

  9. Excelling in Academics: Pre-K & Kindergarten Alabama’s First Lady, Patsy Riley, reading to kindergarten students at Huguley Elementary. Dancing and singing are used as interactive learning techniques in our pre-k classes.

Excelling in Academics:Academic Programs and Initiatives • ARI: Alabama Reading Initiative • TEAM MATH: Transforming East Alabama Mathematics • AMSTI: Alabama Math Science and Technology Initiative • ACCESS: Alabama Connection Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide – a distance learning program at both high schools. • DUAL ENROLLMENT: Career Tech Students can enroll in classes at Southern Union State Community College and West Georgia Tech. • PBS: Positive Behavior Support • PROGRAMS FOR ALL EXCEPTIONALITIES: Co-teaching opportunities for students with special needs; enrichment classes for gifted students • TIERED INSTRUCTION TO MEET STUDENTS’ INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

Excelling in Academics:Academic Programs and Initiatives • ARI: Alabama Reading Initiative is a nationally recognized model, using research based strategies for teaching reading • ARI provides the tools needed to accomplish its goal for students to read on grade level. • All of our elementary schools are part of the Alabama Reading Initiative.

Excelling in Academics: Career Technical Education The Chambers County Career Technical Center provides high school students the opportunity to apply academic skills taught in the traditional setting to a real world career oriented contextual setting. The center offers technical education in automotive service technology, health science, architecture and construction, environmental management/aqua-culture, cosmetology, teacher education, business/marketing, information technology and industrial services technology.

  17. Excelling in Academics: Dual Enrollment • Career Tech high school students have the opportunity to go to Southern Union State Community College or West Georgia Technical College to take career tech electives that earn them college credits.

  18. Extracurricular Activities The LaFayette High School band playing at the open house of the new band facility Chambers County Schools supported the American Cancer Society as the top fund raiser for Relay for Life. J. P. Powell Middle School was the top fundraising (per student) school.
