  1. 1. Attach the table of contents page to the first page of your notebook.2. Number the pages starting with the Table of contents as page 1. (back side of the papers is the even #s, fronts are the odd #’s)

  3. Interactive Notebook (INB) Set-Up • First, number page fronts and backs, starting with the very first page(Table of Contents) as #1 and continuing on to at least 25. • Put numbers on top outside corner, away from the spiral. Even # Odd #

  4. Add to Table of Contents: Pg 2 Left Side Pg 3 Right Side Pg 4 Obs./Inf. activity Pg. 5 Data Gathering

  5. Turn to Page 3 Title it: Data Gathering

  6. Data Gathering 1. Observation- 2. Quantitative- Observation Data gathered using the 5 senses. It should be accurate and objective (non-biased and free of opinions) Numerical data, usually obtained by using tools. Ex. 6cm insect

  7. 3. Qualitative observation- 4. Inference- Descriptive data. Ex. Blue insect Explanation or interpretation of an observation. (It is not a proven scientific fact.)

  8. Review 1. A plant grew 5cm in 2 days. What type of data gathering is this? Answer= Observation 2. Saying cats like sunlight is what type of data gathering? Answer= Inference 3. The cat constantly moves to where the sunlight is. What type of observation is it? Answer= Qualitative

  9. Assignment • 1. Observe the organisms in the jars (Do not open lids) • 2. Make 2 observations: • A. Quantitative Observation(a number) • B. Qualitative Observation(description) • 3. Make an inference-not sure if it is true
