Smoking Prohibition (Children in Motor Vehicles) (Scotland) Bill Purpose of the Bill A Bill for an Act of the Scottish Parliament to prohibit smoking in private motor vehicles in the presence of children, subject to limited exceptions; and for connected purposes. • Status of the Bill • This Member's Bill was introduced by Jim Hume MSP on 15 December 2014. • The Bill was passed at Stage 3 on 17 December 2015 and received Royal Assent on 21 January 2016. Summary of the progress of the bill Mr Hume said: "Today my bill to stop smoking in cars whilst children are present is now formally laid at parliament. "A shocking 60,000 children each week are exposed to second-hand smoke in vehicles," he added.
