  3. Issue • Missed opportunities as part of the disaster recovery resulted in the need for a state Silver Jackets team

Pilot Selection Criteria • Frankfort is the center of government for the Commonwealth of Kentucky • A FIRM update within Franklin County was ongoing, which increased the level of awareness for local officials • A USGS flood inundation mapping initiative (FIMI) project in response to the May 2010 floods • Parts of Frankfort protected by a levee • Frankfort could be impacted by the failure of a large flood storage and electricity-generating dam upstream of the city

Actions Resulting in Risk Reduction • Increased awareness • Flooding on Kentucky River • Levee • Flood storage/electricity-producing dam • Identification of at risk structures/sensitive areas • Identification of inaccessible evacuation routes • Assessment of levee failure including areas impacted, business interruptions, and long term recovery requirements • Assessment of the piping or overtopping failure of Dix River Dam • Updates to the City of Frankfort Flood Mitigation Plan • Higher CRS rating for the City of Frankfort • Leverage pilot project into other activities e.g. Risk MAP
