Partners • Think of how you as a parent and/or staff member partner with others. (Ex: life partners, school partners, community partners.) • Introduce yourself and tell the group who some of your partners are. Give one example of an effective partnership and what makes it work for you and your partner.
Objective • School-Parent Compact Participants will be able to identify the requirements of a school-parent compact.
What is a compact? • Written agreement between teachers, parents and students. • Clarifies responsibilities of each party • Describes partnership building • Describes communication plan
Why must Title 1 Schools use Parent Compacts? • Federal Legislation: • No Child Left Behind Legislation Mandate (Appendix C Sec.1118 (b-e)
When should compacts be created and reviewed? • Compacts should be developed jointly with the parents of participating students, and may be completed during Parent Teacher Conferences. • Compacts should be reviewed as needed to ensure implementation of responsibilities and successful attainment of goals. • Continual assessment of the effectiveness of the compact (at least annually) and use results to implement improvements.
Where should Compacts be maintained? • Parent Compacts should be accessible to the teacher during the school year to facilitate reviews. • Parent Compacts should become part of the student’s Cumulative School Folder at the end of the school year.
Sample Compacts • Each Title 1 school will be provided with a sample of a compact to be personalized according to each individual student and family.
