Judaism has survived for almost 4000 years, including 2000 years without a homeland, without the Temple in Jerusalem, without any common geographic location, and without support from the outside. Judaism and Jews survived because of the Hebrew Bible. No matter where they lived, no matter what historical horrors or joys they experienced, the heart of their faith was carried and communicated through the way, the path and the teachings of The Hebrew Bible.
Helpful to know The Torah/Hebrew Bible/Tanakh can all be used interchangeably to describe the sacred text of Judaism. But, more specifically, the Torah is actually the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, which on one hand narrate the story of creation to the death of Moses, and on the other hand it is the central text that guides the Way called Judaism.
