Transformational Grant-Making Over the past 4 years, Legacy Foundation has invested in strategic transformational grant-making initiatives. Priority will be given to requests that address issues identified in Legacy’s On the Table Survey Resultsor the Quality of Life Plan for one of the 4 Neighborhood Spotlight communities.
What is On the Table? • Legacy Foundation is one of 10 community foundations across the U.S. replicating the On the Table initiative with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation • On September 26, 2018 we asked residents throughout Lake County to come together in small groups and in their own spaces • Discuss the future of our communities • Generate ways of supporting positive work • Share key takeaways and feedback on which community leaders and residents can act • At the conclusion of each conversation, participants were asked to complete a short survey • Conversations: 144 Host Sites| Participants: 2,927 (2,135 Adults and 792 Youth) • 57% Survey Response Rate

What is Neighborhood Spotlight? • Neighborhood Spotlight is a collective impact initiative • Based on an extensive training and application process, 4 communities were selected to hire a community builder and develop a resident led Quality of Life plan • The Quality of Life plans include identifies issues and goals for neighborhood transformation
Neighborhood Spotlight Timeline • 2012 - Created taskforce • In 2013 – Program design and December launch • In 2014 – Community trainings • 2015 - Gary Miller and Hobart NW selected as 1st neighborhoods • 2016 - Gary Emerson and Griffith selected as 2nd neighborhoods. Gary Miller and Hobart NW are in implementation year • 2017 - Implementation and evaluation year with all 4 neighborhoods • 2018 – Continue Implementation through TLC grant funding
Grant Application Review Components • Applications must be able to demonstrate: • The organization has the capacity to carry out the proposed work • Project is clearly defined with timeline and action steps • Funding from Legacy will be impactful • Budget is clearly defined and costs are reasonable • Clear and achievable outcomes • Project is sustainable without requiring ongoing funding in future years • Necessary collaborations have been established and formalized with attached documentation
Priority Areas • Addresses issues identified in the On the Table survey results or Neighborhood Spotlight quality of life plans* • Organizations with a budget under $2 million • The proposed request aims to resolve the problem at its source • Organizations that have not received consecutive grants from Legacy Foundation in recent years • Innovative and new ideas • Proposals that will help to improve services or eliminate duplication • Proposals that help implement an organization’s strategic plan • Proposals that are community driven or include community outreach and involvement • Proposals that have a financial match or that can use Legacy funding to leverage additional resources

Application Purpose & Timeline To increase attract and retain talent, increase opportunity, and promote civic and community engagement in Gary Informed and Engaged Urban Communities (Knight) To offer opportunities for residents of Lake County to engage in and participate in events that will increase community involvement and education Sponsorships
Application Review Process (TLC & THS) StaffandGrantCommitteereview applications. Staffprovidespreliminaryrecommendationstothe Grant Committeeforreview and final funding decisions. The Boardof Directorsreviewandvoteonallfinal funding decisions. The awardsgrantedcanrangefrom $2,000- $25,000. Fundingdecisionsarecommunicatedtothe applicationsvia emailapproximately6weeksafterapplication duedate.
What We Don’t Fund Organizations that are for-profit Grantstoindividuals Scholarships.Ifyouareinterestedinscholarships pleasecontact our scholarship administrator. Anyproposalthatpromotesa particularreligion,political affiliation,or lobbying. A proposalthatdiscriminates basedonage,race, ethnicity, gender,or sexualorientation. Post-eventfunding requests.

What We Don’t Fund: SchoolGrants Legacydoes notfund Public,Private, orCharterSchools, Universities, orPrivate Academies. However,Legacy willfund non-profitgroupsandpartnerships proposingtoconductprogramsin partnershipwithschools. Partnershipsbetween non-profitgroups andschoolsismost preferredwhenthepartnershipwillbenefit multiple schools. Partnerships between non-profitgroupsandschoolsarepreferredwhenthecommunitycanalsobenefit from the goals.
Grant Requests (TLC, THS, & Knight) • Grantsrequestsshouldrangefrom$2,000-$25,000. • Pre-applicationmeetingwithLegacystaffis stronglyrecommended, especiallyif yourorganizationhas notpreviouslyreceiveda Legacy grant. • Onlyonegrantcanbe awardedfromeachfundin a12monthperiod. • IfawardedaTransformLakeCountyGrant,youcanalsoapply foraThriving HobartSeniorsGrant.However,youcannotapply foranotherTransform LakeCountyGrantuntil a Final Report is submitted andthat awardisclosed.

Grant Monitoring GrantReview–Allapplicationsarereviewedbystaffandgrantscommittee.RecommendationsarepresentedtotheBoardofDirectorsandtheydetermineactionsbasedonmajorityvote. DueDiligence–Allgranteesarerequiredtoprovideduediligencedocumentation,includingfinancial audits,by-laws,listofBoardofDirectors or Governing Body,anddocumentationof501c3status. Grant Agreement–Establishesgrantconditions.Mustbesignedbygrantee and returned within 30 days of notification of award.Grant funds will not be released until the signed Grant Agreement is returned and conditions (if any) are met. SiteVisits– Legacystaffand/orboardwillconductone or more sitevisitsapproximatelyhalf-waythroughthegrantperiod. Organizations are encouraged to reach out to Legacy Foundation staff to schedule a site visit during the time project activities are occurring. Final Reports– Atthecloseofthegrantterm,granteesarerequiredtosubmitafinalreportwithfinancials. Final reports are due exactly 13 months from the date of the signed SOC. Reports should be submitted online through www.legacyfdn.org. Organizations will be ineligible for future funding until the final report is submitted.
