2. Where do I begin to look for books? • Start in the Book and Audiovisual catalogue ExpressLINK is the online book and audio visual catalog of the Owens College Library It contains over • 45,000 titles • It is available on the Internet at www.owens.edu/Library

3. How does it work? • Look at the top of the Library’s home page at the box titled: Owens ExpressLINK Catalog In this box you will insert key words to guide your search

6. Note, the inserted word is insurance • This is an initial key word search • On the next slide, you will see that there are 219 number of texts in the Owens’ collection that relate to that word • Note that the most recent title appears first

8. Choosing a text • I am most interested in medical coding, so looking down the list of titles, I find a text that will be helpful • I will then click on that title • I chose the forth one down the list

10. This page tells me that the book is locatedon the Toledo Campus, the specific location, and the statis

11. Two options for refinement • Click on the term of most interest and you will automatically be taken to other titles focus on that subject • Go back to your original search and insert one of the subject terms that most closely fit your subject

12. The blue subject list also gives me three options for subject searches to help refine my search

15. For more choices • You can check for other books that would be housed on the same shelf in the library

Boolean operators-help to further refine the search • AND or + requests sources that use all given words • Not or –narrows the search by excluding given words • Or broadens the search by including both alternate terms • * use the wild card to permit different versions of the word such as: health* =>healthcare, health careers, health insurance…

20. How can I check out a book? Or Why do I need an OCID and ID card?

21. To check out any materials you will need an Owens ID card which is scanned when you check out If you wish to use Ohio Link, explained later, you will also need to know your OCID number found on Ozone to request any materials.
