What is EPINet™? • Software based on MS Access™ (97 or later) • User friendly • Records and analyses in detail occupational exposures to blood borne viruses • Tracks exposures and monitors results of testing and treatment • Tracks exposure from beginning to end
What is EPINet™? • 6 other European countries operate their own versions of EPINet™ • Used in more than 40 sites throughout the UK • 22 of which form the basis of the second year of an RCN surveillance project into NSI’s.
Objectives of EPINet™? • To record and monitor the level of Needlestick injuries • Analyse data to identify methods of reducing needlestick injuries • Raise awareness by collecting figures to show the extent of the problem
Detailed referencing allows for quick and easy ID of each individual record
Drop down menus allow you to quickly and easily select answers from a pre-set list
Data may also be entered quickly by number. The corresponding answer will then appear from the list
Text boxes allow for detailed explanation of events and feedback The Needlestick Form allows you to add your own question
Final page of form records details of the cost of the needlestick throughout post exposure process
Single Incident Reports allow you to view the details of each incident in full
Summary Reports show the data from all incidents recorded, creating an easy to read break down of incident statistics.
Summary Log Reports provide a brief description of all incidents recorded including the written description as provided by the injured worker.
Summary Reports also allow you to filter data. i.e. analyse incidents by Job Category, or Type of Device
Other features of EPINet™ • Software can be networked, allowing multiple access to the same data • Easy to merge data from separate databases if you’re not networked • Software is based on MS Access™ - the majority of features are available in EPINet™ • Data can be filtered to show incidents recorded in chosen areas
Other features of EPINet™ (2) • Automatic graphs allow you to analyse your data quickly and easily • Customize EPINet™ software quickly and easily to fit your requirements • Protect data access with 3 level security system and passwords
Long term benefits of EPINet™ • EPINet™ can be used as a management tool to identify key areas where needlesticks occur frequently, thus targeting areas for reduction • Use EPINet’s™ detailed reporting system to identify how NSI’s could be prevented
