  1. The Vision The vision of the Access4All committee is to ensure every student in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has appropriate access to a reliable computer during school and to facilitate the availability of computers and internet access beyond the school day.

The Need • Student access to the internet outside of school and from home is increasingly important for student success • With the increase of online digital content, textbooks, assessments, and other resources, ALL students need appropriate access to technology • Over 26% of FCPS student population is on free or reduced meals (FRM) • Based on recent survey of all FCPS families: • 7% indicate they do not have internet access at home • 19% indicated they do not have enough devices to support the educational needs of their children

  4. Current Community Programs • Fairfax County Computer Clubhouses • Fairfax County Public Libraries • Comcast Internet Essentials • Negotiating with Cox on similar program • Virginia STAR Program

Coming Soon • School-Based MiFi Mobile Hotspot Checkout • Can provide internet connectivity at home for students who don’t have access • Adds “access” to existing computer check-out programs • 3G MiFi device with content filtering • Available for schools to purchase in April • Device and Activation - $120 (one time) • Data package - $180 (each year) • Yearly Computer/Hotspot Rental Program • Similar to the “Instruments for All” program • Not yet funded
