Adult Obesity in Virginia • Obesity is one of the leading preventable causes of death in the U.S. (second to tobacco use). • 60.6%, or 3.45 million adults, are overweight or obese • 25.5%, or 1.45 million adults, are obese.

Youth Obesity in Virginia • Obesity is a serious health concern for children and adolescents • Obese children and adolescents are at risk for health problems during their youth and as adults and are more likely to become obese as adults.
Childhood Obesity • The consequences of childhood overweight may mean a generation of children living shorter life spans than their parents.
