Why? • A Florida lawmaker proposes a new license plate that includes a cross and the words “I believe.” The license plate is voluntary – it would not be issued to all drivers. • NYC hangs a banner that says “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays” outside Borough Hall. • A police officer requires a subway car preacher to leave the subway because other passengers appear annoyed by the preacher. What happens if the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause are in conflict? • A Connecticut law states that Sunday will be an official day off from work, explaining that Sunday is the Sabbath and God meant for us not to work on the Sabbath.
