Private Study Blocks: Depends on what you study. • E.g. 4 x AS = 14 study blocks per fortnight • E.g. Extended Diploma = 20 per fortnight • Private study blocks must be used for study! The Timetable
Building on GCSE • Independent learning is the key: work outside lessons! • Smaller class sizes • Dialogue with teachers Teaching and Learning
GCSE = ‘learn what teacher has given you’ • A level = ‘research and discuss it’ • Top grades require:autonomy & independence • 2—3 hours outside of lessons per day. • More responsibility for own learning Independent learning!
Summer reading list • Researching a topic • Identifying areas to improve • Taking notes/organising worksheets • Knowing where to turn for help • Exams are in June only How can you facilitate this?

Attendance • Attendance= a major success factor. • To be ‘the best they can be.’ • Even legitimate,authorisedabsenceneeds to bebelow 20%. • Falling attendance is the first signthat help is needed
Attend every tutor am session • Use of TARS • Lesson by lesson • Study blocks and signing out (Fire drills!) • Foreseeable absence — orange holiday form • Unforeseeable absence — note to tutor • Ringing in: Mrs Davies or Mrs Nichols in the sixth form office How we monitor attendance
New system: 4 reports a year: effort, attainment, target grade • Tutor report in the summer. • Mentoring Day in Novemberto coincide with tutors’ evening • Parents’ evening in January Trackingprogress
