  6. Private Study Blocks: Depends on what you study. • E.g. 4 x AS = 14 study blocks per fortnight • E.g. Extended Diploma = 20 per fortnight • Private study blocks must be used for study! The Timetable

  9. Building on GCSE • Independent learning is the key: work outside lessons! • Smaller class sizes • Dialogue with teachers Teaching and Learning

  10. GCSE = ‘learn what teacher has given you’ • A level = ‘research and discuss it’ • Top grades require:autonomy & independence • 2—3 hours outside of lessons per day. • More responsibility for own learning Independent learning!

  13. Attendance • Attendance= a major success factor. • To be ‘the best they can be.’ • Even legitimate,authorisedabsenceneeds to bebelow 20%. • Falling attendance is the first signthat help is needed

  14. Attend every tutor am session • Use of TARS • Lesson by lesson • Study blocks and signing out (Fire drills!) • Foreseeable absence — orange holiday form • Unforeseeable absence — note to tutor • Ringing in: Mrs Davies or Mrs Nichols in the sixth form office How we monitor attendance
