IBM & Lotus Certification Program Presented by: Emily Peterson en-terpret.co
Certification Program Information • IBM/Lotus’ certification program provides a gauge for companies to measure the technical knowledge of Lotus product experts. • The certification program requires individuals to pass a series of exams to demonstrate job function expertise and show a high level of technical knowledge.
Areas of Expertise • Application Development * • System Administration * • Principal Application Developer • Principal System Administrator * = in the areas of Notes/Domino and Collaborative Solutions.
Why Certification Is Important An IBM/Lotus certified professional is… • Someone who can demonstrate a certain level of knowledge within the specified area of Lotus technology. • Someone who is up to date with the technology – certification ensures currency.
Certification Importance • Working with someone who is certified provides a level of assurance that the person is knowledgeable. • While certification is important and valuable, it doesn’t stand alone. Certification credentials should be backed up with references to confirm the knowledge level desired is present.
Changes to Certification Program • Changes took effect on August 1, 2003. • Title changes impact ALL Lotus Certified Professionals and Instructors. • New marks and titles should be used now. • New titles are automatically applied. • If R4 or R5 certified, you will not get a new certificate unless you specifically request one. • Don’t need to change business cards, but you can.
Why Were Changes Made? The IBM Software Group brands (Lotus, DB2 Data Management, Tivoli, WebSphere and the newly acquired, Rational Software) felt that having one, common, IBM certification brand and program would bring strong value and recognition to the marketplace. The new program andtitles will make it easy for potential employers, businesses and colleagues to see that you are IBM certified and have specialized expertise in one or more of the IBM software brands.
New Program Skill Levels • The IBM Certified Professional program is divided into three certification skill levels: • IBM Certified Associate (entry level) • IBM Certified Professional (intermediate level) • IBM Certified Advanced Professional (advanced level)
Job Role Categories • IBM has defined six "job role" categories: • Administrator • Developer • Designer • Deployment Professional • Instructor • Advisor (Not all software brands will develop certifications for every role, for example, Lotus does not currently have any plans to develop a certification for a deployment professional.)
Mark Information • New marks are now available. • Marks are available exclusively to Lotus Certified Professionals to designate your professional certification status with IBM Lotus Software. • The previously available marks, CLP, CLS and PCLP have been replaced by this new mark.
If R5 Certified… All Lotus Certification logos (now called marks) are replaced with the new IBM Certified for Lotus Software mark. All Lotus certified professionals should use the new mark. Although IBM/Lotus is not updating Release 5 titles retroactively, Release 5 professionals should feel free to use the new titles with the new mark. For example, a Release 5 CLP can call themselves an IBM Certified Professional in conjunction with the new mark.
