  1. East Asia: Station #1: Mapping • Follow the attached instructions and use the atlases to label the locations.

East Asia Station #2: Government • Major countries: Japan, China, North Korea, and South Korea • Democracies: Japan and South Korea • Dictatorship: China (strong Chinese dynasty and emperor influences) • Totalitarian Dictatorship: North Korea • Cold War (1950s)- U.S. failed to stop the spread of communism in North Korea.

East Asia Station #3: Economics • China and Japan- Countries who focus on technology and other products to be shipped to the western world (mainly U.S. and Europe) • East Asia Free Trade Agreement (ASEAN +3)-promotes economic growth and cultural exchange between 13 member nations. • Urbanization occurring as a result of growing economic development in China. • Three Gorges Dam- Provide electricity to millions in central China, destroying history, villages, and environment

East Asia Station #4: Culture • China- Han Chinese make up the majority of the population; Mandarin is the main language; Major religions are Buddhism, Taoism & Confucianism; Conflict between China & Taiwan (Taiwan claims independence from China; China does not recognize it). • Mongolia-mainly Buddhist • Japan- Buddhism & Shintoism

East Station #5: Population • China- Migration from rural to urban; populations density is highest in East China. • China’s One Child Policy • Mongolia-low population density; rural • Japan: High literacy & education rates; population dense • Korea: Population Dense; growing Christian community
