Tip #1: Create a Well-Designed, Tailored Resume Focus on the Details • Formatting and Layout • Font Style and Size • Grammar and Punctuation Make It Stand Out • Companies receive 100+ Resumes Daily • Average time reviewing a resume: 30 seconds Focus on Unique Skills, Talents, Experience • Link to outcomes and achievements • Tailor for each type of position you want
Tip #2: Include Pertinent Information What to Include on Your Resume? Work and school Extra curricular activities Professional and academic associations Volunteer experience Practical/Life experience Mortar Board Use Powerful Action Words Use Strong Action Words Focus on Results Brevity is Key
Tip #3: Do Your Research Visit the Company’s Website • Careers or “About Us” Section shows corporate culture Job Descriptions Contain Good Intel • Be sure you understand exactly what the company is looking for in the position you’re applying for Look at Your Network • Do you know someone who works at that company or in that industry? • Common Places to Look: College Career Center, LinkedIn, Facebook, Word of Mouth
Tip #4: Proofread, Proofread, Proofread Review your resume at LEAST 2xs before submitting Check for Content • Spelling and Grammar • Formatting and Presentation Check for Authenticity • Does the resume sound like you? • Have you included everything you can? Go the Extra Mile • Have someone you don’t know review your resume

Interviews: Framing Your Answers Follow the STAR Method • Situation: Describe the situation you were involved in • Task: Describe the tasks involved in the situation • Action: Describe the action that you took • Results: Describe the results that followed because of your actions
