Protection of the Public Canada’s Professional Associations are self-governing agencies which are mandated by Provincial Governments to ensure that their members have been: • Certified as having met defined minimum academic requirements and have proven work experience at the appropriate level, and • Registered to ensure that they work under a strict code of ethics.
The associations are trying to simplify registration for IEP’s: • IEP’s now have access to fast-track registration procedures: • APEGBC & ASTTBC both offer a ‘Provisional Membership’: • Provisional Membership is for a one-year, non-renewable term. The intention of the Provisional Membership status is to aid individuals who have been trained internationally in their search for engineering or geoscience work in a Canadian environment. This membership will also act as an identifier for companies reviewing candidates for employment. • Professional status may be granted to the Provisional Member once he or she has completed the year of Canadian experience, pending a final satisfactory review and approval through APEGBC or ASTTBC registration channels. • APEGBC began offering Provisional Membership status on January 1st, 2004. • ASTTBC began offering Provisional Membership status in February, 2007..
