  1. An Interaction residential trip to Parisfor Year 6 10th – 14th June 2013

  2. Why are we going? • An opportunity to communicate with French children of their own age. • Visit the French partner school and experience authentic French lessons and the difference of school life in France. • Visits to tourist and cultural attractions in Paris

  3. How are we going to get there? By hired coach (with a toilet and seat belts), to Folkestone, then Eurotunnel shuttle service to Calais where we continue the entire visit in the same coach. The shuttle takes 35 minutes

  4. What do I need to send for my child, on the journey?We will be leaving school at 07:30 in order to get a 10:30 crossing. You will need to be at school at 07:00 for immediate boarding and departure. • A backpack/rucksack • Some form of entertainment for the coach (eg.small book of quizzes, crosswords, a magazine, playing cards etc) No electronic games please. • A packed lunch– no yoghurts because they explode, no glass bottles, no sweets on the journey, no food that makes a mess • Travel sickness pills if required

  5. How long is the journey?approx 2 ½ hours to Folkestoneapprox 35 minutes in the tunnelapprox 3-4 hours from Calais to the Moisson Centre • Please ensure that you child has enough to eat without making them sick and enough water if it is hot. • There is water on board if necessary. (tap water)

Where are we staying??The Moisson Centre The Childrens centre in Moisson is run all year round by an excellent  French educational organisation and has all necessary health and safety regulations in place. It is in the beautiful Yvelines region to the North West of Paris. The distance to the centre of Paris is approx 50 miles, 36 miles are by motorway so it is very direct to travel to Paris. It has excellent  facilities and ensuite bedrooms,

Health and safety • Security guards patrol the centre at night. • Doors are locked between 10pm and 7am. • In France there is a strict rule that there must be 1 adult to every 8 children. • The lake is shallow at its edges. • Although the site is 170 hectares, we will set boundaries for the children and they will be supervised at all times. • Boys and girls are accommodated at different ends of the building and staff rooms will be among the children’s.

  10. Eating • Breakfast is eaten in the cafeteria . There will be cereal, fresh bread, orange juice and tea. • Lunch will be a sandwich, fruit, crisps and a drink, eaten at a picnic spot near where we will be each day. • Please let us know as early as possible of any food allergies or special dietary requirements e.g. vegetarians • Dinner is also eaten in the restaurant at about 6.30pm each day. Menus are 3 courses and typically French, whilst respecting the dietary requirements and tastes of English children.

  16. What is the cost? £290 for travel, food and accommodation for 5 days. Part funded by the school

  17. Fund raising • To pay for the excursions, year 6 children will be asked to plan, organise and run fundraising events. - Tower Montparnasse – 5 Euros • Cruise along River Seine – 5 Euros • George Pompidou Centre – 7 Euros • Total = approx 800 Euros

  18. Behaviour • Highest standards of behaviour expected • Only children with positive behaviour records will have the privilege of joining the trip- not a statutory part of the curriculum • Deposits will not normally be refunded

Thank you! • We hope this has answered some of your questions. • Please note that children with UK passports do not need to have their own passport as we will be travelling on a group passport, arranged by the school. • However, you will need to apply for the EU EHIC card for your child in readiness for the trip to France. It is simple to apply for it online at www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do. You will receive a confirmation of your application by email and the card sent to your home address within a week. You may send the card in to Mr Hackman where it will be kept until our departure. Remember that you can keep up with payments in instalments via the cashless machine up until Monday 20th May 2013
