Socrates served with honor in the Peloponnesian War against Sparta… …where he was also the hoplite of the battle who encouraged others, which helped light up their spirits.
Socrates demonstrated that wrongdoing results from ignorance. . If a man lies, Socrates might have said, he does so because he does not understand the benefits of telling the truth.
Socrates was anti-democratic… yet was acquainted with Democratic leaders… Plato and Aristotle’s philosophy is based on the works of Socrates. Plato was actually the one to have a part in the Athenian Democracy.
He uses questions to approach the people instead of providing answers to help lead them indirectly to the truth. (Known as the Socratic Method) Example- Answering a question…with a question! Many people had gotten irritated and frustrated.
“I hold that to need nothing is divine, and the less a man needs, the nearer does he approach divinity.” Man doesn’t need wealth or luxuries. The less he has, the more he understands The divinity and importance of life.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” If you don’t know what life is and what you’re doing with it, is not worth living for.
Socrates was charged of impiety, corrupting the youth, and for changing the outlooks on the Athenian Democracy. Socrates was eventually sentenced to death.
Socrates’ philosophical ways betters the world intellectually and changes the ways of human morality and life. (Helps us think and learn for ourselves, making us progress with our knowledge.)
