FMIPv6 Usage with DNA Protocoldraft-koodli-dna-fmip-00 Rajeev Koodli, Syam Madanapalli DNA WG, 63 IETF - Paris
Purpose of the draft • To document how FMIPv6 can be used with DNA • Informational
FMIPv6 & DNA • FMIPv6 makes use of neighborhood information to expedite handovers • DNA can provide fast detection of movement across subnets • Scenarios where neighborhood information is unavailable, DNA can assist FMIPv6 for Reactive Handovers
Protocol Operation … • MN (re)associates with an Access Point and obtains the AP-ID • The MN searches for the [AP-ID, AR info] Tuple • If [AP-ID AR info] is available, MN proceeds with FMIPv6 protocol • If the tuple info is not available, MN invokes the DNA protocol • The MN sends a Router Solicitation with DNA extension (if any) • The MN receives a DNA Router Advertisement • determines change in subnet • configures new care of address and makes the address optimistic
Protocol Operation • MN sends a Fast Binding Update to PAR directly (i.e., without encapsulating inside FNA) • PAR should send a Handover Initiate message to the New Access Router • NAR should send a Handover Acknowledge message to the PAR • PAR sends a Fast Binding Acknowledgement message to the MN on the new link • PAR starts tunneling the packets to the MN's new CoA
Way forward • Accept as WG item?
