  1. AMND journal 1 • In 1.1. 21-131, we learn that Egeus, Hermia’s father, does not like Lysander and tries to stop him from seeing Hermia. What arguments would you present to change Egeus’ mind? Explain.

  2. AMND journal 2 • Why is prose (words written like in a novel or how we speak) an appropriate vehicle for Bottom and the other mechanicals? • Why is verse (poetry, song, etc.) apt for the fairies and other mortals?

  3. AMND journal 3 • Choose a character that we have encountered in AMND. Compose a minimum two paragraph character analysis in which you discuss the character’s personality, desires, and motivations in the first acts of AMND. • Use at least 3 pieces of textual evidence to support your assertions.

AMND journal 4 • In Act 1, Hermia says, “Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind; / And therefore is the winged Cupid painted blind.” We have seen several examples of blind love in AMND. • List as many examples as you can. • Explain whether you agree with Hermia’s statement and support your perspective with examples from history and popular culture.
