Finish our Practice from Yesterday... Pull out a scrap of paper – I won’t collect this, we’re just checking your understanding
The Elements of Music Practicing Tempo & Rhythm – can you perform it?
Elements of Music – Can you Create them? • Today you will be practicing tempo & rhythm, by creating your own simple piece of music! • This will NOT be turned in today, but you need to complete it today • You will perform your piece as a group today (if time allows) • You will use your work on Thursday and add to it
Instructions • Groups of 3-4 people (NO MORE THAN 4!!!) • You’re going to create a piece of music using TEMPO & RHYTHM • MELODY is pretty straight forward, where rhythm can be tough to grasp • Each group will get a handout. Listen CLOSELY as we go over the instructions so there’s no confusion.
Instructions • Step 1: Create 8 measures of RHYTHM in 4/4 time signature • You may use whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes (keep eighth notes in groups of two) and should use each at least once total. • The TIME SIGNATURE is 4/4, so you MUST have 4 beats in each measure – no more, no less. • Step 2: Practice your 4/4 RHYTHM • As a group, make sure that you can clap the rhythm you created. If not, change things as needed. • Practice your rhythm as a group at ADAGIO, MODERATO, and PRESTO tempos We will do an example in a moment
Instructions • Step 3: Create 8 measures of RHYTHM in 3/4 time signature • You may use half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes (keep eighth notes in groups of two) and should use each at least once total. • No whole notes because it won’t fit in the measure! • The TIME SIGNATURE is 3/4, so you MUST have 3 beats in each measure – no more, no less. • Step 4: Practice your 3/4 RHYTHM • As a group, make sure that you can clap the rhythm you created. If not, change things as needed. • Practice your rhythm as a group at ADAGIO, MODERATO, and PRESTO tempos We will do an example in a moment
Instructions • Step 5: PERFORM YOUR RHYTHMS as a group for the class • You will perform your rhythms for the class a group. • Make sure your group can stay together and that everyone is correct!
Tips • There are METRONOMES online! • http://www.metronomeonline.com/ • This one specifically shows you where Adagio, Moderato, and Presto tempos are • Don’t just say “go” when you’re practicing. Have someone COUNT OFF • 1..2.. 1, 2, ready, go • Will help everyone start together If you were absent yesterday, please see me about when to make up your quiz. I will pass back your Art projects and quizzes from yesterday.
Binder • Put your ART PROJECTS in YOUR BINDER • Elements of Art Notes • Principles of Art Notes • ART PROJECT • Elements of Music Notes • Your QUIZZES do NOT need to go in your binder
