STOP!Notice and Note • Signpost Six– Memory Moment • WHY USE IT? To examine plot and conflict; and also to notice foreshadowing.
STOP!Notice and Note • When you are reading and the author interrupts the action to tell you a memory. • You can notice these by looking for words like: remember, reminded, or memory
EXAMPLE: from Twilight “I was born in Chicago in 1901." He paused and glanced at me from the corner of his eyes. My face was carefully surprised, patient for the rest. He smiled a tiny smile and continued. "Carlisle found me in a hospital in the summer of 1918. I was seventeen, and dying of the Spanish influenza."
OP!Notice and Note • After you note the Memory Moment, ask yourself the following question: Why might this memory be important?
STOP!Notice and Note The answers to that question will tell you more about the plot and conflict. It also may help to foreshadow what will happen later.
COPY THE FOLLOWING REMINDERS: Always, STOP! Notice and Note: • Memory Moments– When you are reading and the author interrupts the action to tell you a memory. • THEN, ask yourself the question: Why might this memory be important? • FINALLY, answer that question in your book.
