BACKGROUND • Goal is network of high ease of use bicycle routes. • Bicycles are fast and convenient alternate to car commuting for moderate distances (less than 5 miles) in urban areas. • Cycling already popular in high ease of use, LSU, and Mid City areas for commuting and recreation. • Map publicizes existing network of streets and paths. • Projects address deficiencies (low ease of use) in existing streets network. • Sign-marked routes (projects) link existing streets to facilitate longer distance destinations for casual and recreational riders.

PROJECT EXAMPLE Brightside Drive Bike Route (Project A09) Mark Mile Instruction For Brightside Dr at Nicholson, connect with existing Nicholson Path, continue on Brightside either with expanded 9ft wide one-side path, or add second 5 ft path on south side of Brightside 1 0.0 0.7 mi Intersection with Heatherstone 2 0.7 0.6 mi Intersection with Riverbend 3 1.3 0.8 mi 4 2.1 At River Rd., Connect with future levee bike/ped path (north) and existing Bike training route (south)
PROJECT STATUS • Low cost first projects identified • Route project funding not secured • Preliminary cost estimates based on unengineered scope. • Cycling education in progress with funding from BREC and DOTD.

PATH FORWARD continued • Projects • Develop Route Projects depicted on Map, ASAP using local funds. • Continue with education and roll from “Train the Trainer” to public education. • Larger projects developed as possible, using matching funds.
