In her article “It’s Portion Distortion that Makes America Fat,” Shannon Brownlee, an author who blames the fast food industry for obesity says, “In fact, 30 percent of Taco Bell’s customers accounted for 70 percent of its sales” (7). This is significant because it shows that in the 70s, only a few people were eating fast food. Since the industry has amped marketing efforts, more Americans are eating at those restaurants, thus raising the rate of obesity.
