Both passages can not be from chapters 1-4. • Choose two passages that show support, contrast, or irony of a particular purpose. • Examples of focus are deception, innocence, guilt, and loneliness. These are NOT your only options. You may work with ONE other person.

Quick Write • Complete a quick write in which you analyze Twain’s use of language to present his purpose in the two passages you juxtaposed. • Refer to your notes from yesterday’s work as well as the novel to organize and develop your quick write. • Remember, an analysis essay must focus on writer’s style and purpose. Identify three tools that the writer uses to develop his purpose. Diction and tone are two very common tools to identify. • Plan for 25 minutes to complete this assignment.
