Climate Change opportunities • Over 20 UK CDM companies have established representative offices in China. The demand for CDM projects has grown significantly in recent years covering the following: • HFC-23 and N2O decomposition • renewable energy projects: wind power / small-scaled hydro power • energy saving and energy efficiency projects: waste heat recovery in industrial plants incl. chemical, cement and steel manufacturers / boiler coal gas utilization, • methane collection and utilisation projects: landfill gas, coal mine gas, pig farm waste methane, and industrial wastewater methane • Cement raw material substitute • Fuel substitute for power stations • Across all South China provinces (Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Guangxi and Hunan)
UKTI – Guangzhou Climate Change past activities • “Cleaner Energy for Sustainable Development” Seminar in Guangzhou in May 2007 as part of the visit program of the Foreign Secretary • A mission in Dec 2006 to Hunan Province, Liuzhou city of Guangxi Province, and Hainan Province, taking Chinese representatives of four UK CDM companies to meet potential project owners and discuss the project details. • BERR CCPO (Climate Change Project Office) mission to Guangzhou, October 2006, with delegates from 13 UK CDM companies: (1) roundtable in Guangdong ETC with up to ten big local industrial companies; (2) Technology and Finance for Chinese CDM Projects Seminar and 1-to-1 business discussion. • Visit by Jed Jones, Principal Advisor of CCPO, in June 2006, to Guangdong Yudean Power Group, Guangdong Cement Trade Association, Foshan Huaxia Ceramics Company and Wen’s pig farm. • CCPO mission to Guangzhou, July 2005, with delegates from 10 UK CDM companies: Accessing Global Finance and Project Development Resource for Chinese CDM Project Seminar.
UKTI – Guangzhou Climate Change future activities • UKTI Guangzhou aims to work together with UK CDM companies to develop the South China CDM market. • CCPO mission to visit Fuzhou and Shenzhen in Oct 2008, with focus on CDM capacity building and local project development. • UKTI Guangzhou would like to propose working with GD ETC to work out a list of potential CDM projects for UK companies to capture and develop. • UKTI Guangzhou provides assistance to established UK CDM companies in project access and government lobbying. For instance, we are striving to move forward Sindicatum’s MOU with Guangdong ETC on investing and developing landfill and biomass-energy projects in Guangdong Province.
