Our first partner: Faya Orphanage • Established in 2008 • Run by Ethiopians: Meseret and Sintayehu • Warm home for 10-15 HIV+ and HIV- children • Base of House 2 House community support program • Funding sources: • ARV meds for HIV+ kids and $3/month per child from Ethiopian government • Donations when children are adopted • Vulnerable Children Society
Ethiopia: 92,000 kids living with HIV 650,000 orphans due to AIDS 5,000,000 orphans total ~UNICEF, 2007
Faya Orphanage • Houses 10-15 HIV+/HIV- children • Older kids attend school nearby • Employs roughly 7 people, including caregivers • Clean accessible part of Adama • Costs approx.25,000birr or $1600 a month to run
House 2 Housecommunity support program • Children and families affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS • Need-specific – some receive medical care, doctor visits, food, education fees, etc. • In-community care! This is a SUSTAINABLE solution!
