What are Opaque Polymers? Why OPAC® should be used – benefits to paint? How does OPAC®work? Formulating tools to optimize paint cost/performance Formulating tools to improve paint quality Exterior durability of reformulated paints Storage and handling of OPAC® Overview Coatings Construction Adhesives
OPAC®Organic Pigments • Synthetic dispersion polymers constituted of void-core particles, providing • Inherent opacity • Excellent TiO2 spacing • Being a polymer dispersion • No dispersing energy needed • Do not need dispersing/wetting agents • Very low binder demand (spherical shape) • Very hydrophobic, improving • Exterior durability • Dirtpick-up resistance Coatings Construction Adhesives
OPAC® Organic Pigments • Almost ideal spherical shape: • low relative particle surface • reduced film porosity • better scrub resistance • Very low density • reduced raw material cost per litre of paint Coatings Construction Adhesives
How OPAC® Organic Pigment Works • Inherent Opacity • TiO2 - spacing • Low binder demand Coatings Construction Adhesives

Paint Cost Optimization • General Formulating Guidelines • Reformulation with OPAC® Organic Pigment For a deeper analysis on paint reformulation options, Organik Kimya Technical Service for Polymers Group can help you with computerized modeling and paint application testing Coatings Construction Adhesives
Basic Rules of Reformulation with OPAC® for High PVC Paints • TiO2 PVC: deduct 15 - 30% of the initial level • OPAC®: add 5-10% as supplied on total paint weight • Extenders (high oil adsorption): reduce the initial level by 1/3 • Extenders (low oil adsorption): adjust, so that the sum of all extenders is reduced by 10% • Binder: reduce the initial level by 2-5 %. • Water: adjust to keep the volume solids of the paint constant. • Coalescent level: maintain the original % calculated on active (binder + OPAC®) • Dispersant level: maintain % calculated only on minerals. • Non associative thickeners: may need to be slightly increased • Associative thickeners: may need to be slightly reduced • White Spirit / Plasticizer eliminate COST REDUCTION Coatings Construction Adhesives
Basic Rules of Reformulation with OPAC® for Paints below CPVC It is very critical to keep the same % of the CPVC Coatings Construction Adhesives
Additional Reformulation Recommendations for Paints below CPVC • Extenders:Rebalance small /large particle size ratio to adjust sheen level • Binder: Depending on formulation type reduce by: • Exterior formulation: - 4% • Interior formulation: - 7% • Water: Adjust to keep total volume solids constant • Dispersant: Maintain percentage, calculated on minerals • Coalescent: maintain the original % calculated on active (binder +OPAC®) • Thickener:associative:may need to be slightly reduced non-associative:may need to be slightly increased Coatings Construction Adhesives
Handling and Storage of OPAC® Organic Pigment • OPAC®can be used either in the let down or in the grind – when added in grind phase ensure that opaque particles are not damaged! • Protect OPAC® from freezing! • Bulk storage tanks for OPAC® should be periodically agitated or re-pumped. • Drums should be agitated before use. • Pumps should be diaphragm type to avoid foaming. • Metal parts in contact with OPAC®should be stainless steel or plastic. • Avoid direct contact with solvents, glycols, surfactants and acidic materials.
