  1. The Maycomb Times Scottsboro Boys Arrested For Rape Today nine black teenagers age ranging from twelve to nineteen, better known as the Scottsboro boys were been accused of rape on two white female teenagers. The Boys who were arrested were Olen Montgomery is 17 years old, there was then Clarence Norris is 19 years old, Haywood Patterson is 18 years old, Ozie Powell is 16 years old, Willie Roberson is 16 years old, Charlie Weems is 16 years old, Eugene Williams is 13 years old. Then there is the brothers Andy Wright who is 19 years old and his younger brother Roy Wright who is 12 years old and he was the youngest of the Scottsboro boys. One of the boys, Clarence Norris was accused of raping one of the girls his response was “those girls are lying” he was then stabbed by a bayonet. All of the boys were taking a train to either Memphis or Chattanooga, Tennessee. The boys took over the train forcing white men off of the train. The boys then allegedly raped two white teenage girls. Clarence Norris and Charlie Weems were both sentenced to death by the electric chair. Haywood Patterson was also sentenced to death by electrocution. Ozie Powell was also sentenced to death. Willie Roberson was also sentenced to death. Eugene Williams was sentenced to death. Andy Wright was the last to be sentenced to death. There was only one who was not executed and that was Roy Wright. Roy Wright was instead given a life sentence because of his age. Eight of the nine boys were sentenced to death. There was only one member of the Scottsboro boys that remained, Roy Wright. I think that the Judge()was extremely harsh on the Scottsboro boys. I believe this because in the 1930’s there was a lot of racism that was going on. I think that since all of the Scottsboro boys were black the judge and jury were all white they made sure that they got most of the boys to be punished by death. I also think that since the girls were white the judge and jury made the punishment much worse than if the crime were to have been committed on two black girls. If the girls would have been black the police would have not cared and would have said that the black girl would have been lying. 7 out of 9 of the Scottsboro Boys Haywood Patterson Part of the Scottsboro Boys
