Eligibility “To merit consideration for the CLA Book of the Year for Children Award, a book must have been published in Canada, in 2011 and its author must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. The Selection Jury The members of this year’s jury were: • Myra Junyk (Literacy Advocate and Author, Toronto – Chair) • Megan Clare (Librarian, Waterloo) • Jaclyn McLean (Librarian, Prince Albert) • Kay Weisman (Children’s Literature Consultant, Vancouver) • Alexandra Yarrow (Librarian, Ottawa).
The Selection Process • accept submissions from publishers of books which would appeal to children up to and including age 12 (218 books in total) • read, review and discuss online • create a long-list of 32 titles for thorough reading and review • read, review, discuss online and via teleconference • select a list of ten finalists • consider and discuss the merits of the top ten via teleconference • select winner and two honour books
