On-line quality control production process assessment and tracking system for mechanical parts Inspection cell..... SMARTMEC PROJECT 4th Framework (BRITE PROGRAMME) 1/3/1996 – 1/3/1998 Problem addressed The use of information technologies to control and to assure the quality of complex mechanical parts production, like crankshafts, has been desmostrated in this project. Three different automated cells are used for inspection using non-destructive techniques (NDT): automated visual inspection system (AVI system), surface roughness measurement system (RMS) and a dimensional control system (DCS). Distributed control architecture allows an integral quality assessment of the production process of valuable machined components. Suitable software subsystem has been developed for this architecture: a quality assessment subsystem (QUAL), a tracking subsystem (TS) and intelligent production process’s assessment subsystem (PAS). A prototype has been successfully installed and it is under evaluation in a production line belonging to RENAULT Industrial Vehicles (Spain). AVI System..... NDT cell layout..... Partnership.....
